I'm Dr. Miranda Campbell, a licensed clinical psychologist passionate about helping others navigate one of modern parents’ biggest challenges: raising kids in the digital age.
I earned my PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago and have over a decade of unique clinical and research experience at the intersection of technology and mental health. My background includes pioneering telehealth behavioral health programming with the Department of Veterans Affairs, contributing to over 12 peer-reviewed publications, serving several years on research and ethics committees within the VA system, and founding my own private telehealth practice serving the Midwest.
Having built my career working with technology, I know first hand the benefits it has in fostering connection and reaching underserved populations, but I am also intimately aware of the real dangers it poses for our youth - especially in the areas of safety and mental health.
But here's the thing: I'm not just a psychologist who studies this, I'm living it. As a mother of two boys, I have to navigate these same challenges in my own home. I know what it's like to worry about screen time, to feel guilty about handing over a tablet, to wonder if I'm doing enough. "Is this going to hurt my kids?" And the complexities of discussing this with other parents - "are they going to judge me when they find out how I feel about this?"
Late one night, as I was thinking about the eventual day that my sons would ask for a phone, and reading the U.S. Surgeon's General advisory on social media and youth mental health, I knew this was exactly the issue my background has prepared me to address.
Enter: Generation Tech Kids.
Parents don't need any more fear-mongering or unrealistic advice. They need nuanced, evidence-based guidance from someone who understands the psychology, the technology, and who's also been there at 6 am on a Saturday morning when everyone's melting down and you just need 20 minutes of peace and a cup of coffee.
I'm not here to judge or shame you - these are unprecedented times, and we are all just trying to do what we believe is best for our kids. My goal is to give you the knowledge, tools, and confidence to make decisions that work for YOUR family.
Let's figure this out together.
